Here's a quick update. We made it to airbanks with no problems! Talkeentna to fairbanks has to be one of the best drives in the entire world!
First, you start off in the the big forests around Talkeetna and Trapper creek. Then you move into the uplands; more sparsely tree'd, and grand views of the Alaskan range. Next up? Right through the range and past the Denali National Park entrance. Then off through the flat's around Nennana and finally over the the rolling forested hills outside Fairbanks.
It's a great drive! Each geographic section about 50 miles long with it's own unique weather and road conditions- makes the time go by quick!
And anyway we made it this time with a heavily loaded dog truck and a pickup cab that was way to full for such a long trip.
The race is tommorow. The vet check today. And Charlie is planning to do a short run on the Nennena river before the vet check. So we have a full day... ohh ya, and the musher meeting in tonight, as well.
We are lacking good coverage for sending pics through the phone from the house we are staying at but most of the race course should have better coverage so keep watching!
