September Highlighted Program of the Month

This year, Kigluait Adventures is going to focus on a monthly theme that will be integrated into our Special Event Program and our Monthly program. This month's theme is all about helping the teacher's to kick off their school year with a fun and educational activity involving videoconferencing and distance learning.

September's theme is all about conflict resolution, decision making and building our characters. So it makes sense to highlight our Meet a Musher Program this month, as it focuses on looking at the strong character traits that makes a musher a musher, or a sled dog a sled dog for that matter. During our Monthly Highlighted Mutli-Point program this month, students will get a chance to videoconference with other students to learn about the life of a musher from a 13 year old musher and an adult musher while touring Flash Kennels and meeting several very special sled dogs.

We invite teachers to join our Social Networks, Flash Kennels and Kigluait Ning to discuss ways they build conflict resolution skills in their classroom communities and how character plays in helping have a positive classroom community.  Students also get a chance to practice their conflict resolution skills through several simulations.

January Program of the Month

At Kigluait Adventures we are most widely know for our sled dog related videoconferences and the month of January is an important month for any musher! It is the month were mushers work the hardest, put in the most time and effort into preparing their teams for races and spring trips.

So this month we thought it would be a good idea to highlight our “Sled Dog Racing: Meet a Musher” program ( http://www.kigluaitadventures.com/race ).  This is one of our best “tried and true” programs where your class will Meet our Mushers and dogs, tour the kennel, and get loads of time to ask questions to learn all about what it's really like to run dogs in Alaska!

The program also spends time investigating character traits of mushers, and sled dogs, as well as commonalities of these traits that participants will have due to activities they participate in.

Teachers participating in this program will enjoy speaking with both an adult musher and a teen musher, as both endpoints discuss lifestyles.

Also, teachers can find extensive resources in both our online classroom, Moodle where conversations can be continued in depth via forums, or on our Flash Kennels community site were students can connect with others that have participated in the program.

Program and Lesson of the month: Survive!

At Kigluait Adventures we are most widely know for our sled dog related videoconferences, but it's not all we do! One of our favorite non-dog related programs is Survive!

Just like our Mushing programs, you will not find any other videoconferences out there like it- check it out!
