Training Dumps

11:29 pm in Uncategorized by Richard Hum

Every year at about this time the dogs seem to go into a bit of a slump. Hard to say why exactly. It could be a certain number of miles or maybe because right around now is usually a few weeks into a training period of increased run frequency and duration- so the dogs are tired and haven’t adapted to new training stress just yet. What ever the case, laying around reading to the puppies isn’t the way to make it better!

Not the best way to work through a slump!

Nope. The best way is to keep running. Stay positive and love the dogs up with extra attentions and food. Make sure they stay healthy with lot’s of rub downs and pay special attention to their feet!

On the Sleds! Yipee!

We are on the sleds! Well… sort of.

We got back to the kennel yesterday from a trip to Fairbanks. I had a brief chance to visit all the dogs, scoop poop, feed, and then do an afternoon program with a class in Australia. Then I zipped off for a short sled run with just 4 dogs. FIRST OF THE YEAR.

So, I’m on the sled but a bunch of the dogs are still waiting for their chance.

I took out Goldeen, Raj, Doctor, and Gortex.

Today we are going out with 3 teams of 6,3,and 3 so all the dogs will get run in a 2 day cycle.

It’s snowing now so soon we will be running full teams of 10 and 12 dogs.

We are headed out again today and I promise to get some pictures up!
