Program of the Month

Program and Lesson of the month: Survive!

At Kigluait Adventures we are most widely know for our sled dog related videoconferences, but it's not all we do! One of our favorite non-dog related programs is Survive!

Just like our Mushing programs, you will not find any other videoconferences out there like it- check it out!

This program kicks off right after our youngest dog musher's small bush plane crashes into the wild forest of Alaska a hundred miles north of Alaska.  He was on his way home from visiting friends in the city and was lucky enough to have as a traveling companion a news reporter headed north to cover a dogsled race outside of Talkeetna.

Lucky, I say, because the reporter has broadcasting equipment with him and is able to cobble together a shacky connection back to KEA Incident Cammand Center- and that's where your students come in!

Through this tentitive connection your students are tasked to help our young suvior Survive until help can reach him! They'll be pushed their observational and problem solving limits as they use the plane wrekage and natural environment to help him meet his Food, Shelter, Clothing, and Water needs!

The Details:

This program is a great contextual application for any class reading “Hatchet,” or “My Side Of the Mountain,” or really, any book examining the basic needs of survival in nature.  It's also a great addition to any unit on Character Traits, Life Skills, or Health!  And, it is just plain fun!
