Overview

The goal of this special event is to allow students a closer connection to the dogs in our kennel by having classrooms adopt a dog in the kennel that they will examine their base maintenance level during the videoconference. Afterwards students can compare and analyze data through out the year on the health of their adopted sled dog, through a variety of content area activities, provided free to the participating classroom.

Standards:
NCTM Math Standards 5-12: Data Analysis and Probability
• Formulate questions that can be addressed with data and collect, organize, and display relevant data to answer.
• Develop and evaluate inferences and predictions that are based on data.

NPH-H.K-4.6, NPH-H.5-8.6: Setting goals for good health
*Predict outcomes of positive health decisions.
*Apply strategies and skills needed to attain personal health goals.

Dogs

Rogue
This photo was taken at the conclusion of one month's worth of training when I did an overall health check on all the dogs in my team. We checked range of motion for all joints, muscle tone, condition of coat, weight, heart rate (taken 3hrs after an intense workout), and the condition of their pads. Everything was great unless otherwise noted.

Rogue's a pretty little dog- but taking a bit of time to blow her coat.

Not the best picture of Raj, but she is the main leader. Always, since the whelping pen she has been the most attentive to me and a lot of people will tell you that's something to look for in pups to see if they turn out to be leaders. I haven't always found this to be true but it sure is in this case!

Lost is a very large lovable, goofy, friendly dog. He has a very happy-go-lucky nature and maintains a steady and strong pace when training. You can always count on Lost to have a cherry attitude no matter what training conditions or troubles we may have.

Dalek

Dalek

This photo was taken at the conclusion of last winter's training. Though she ended the training/ racing season in excellent shape, no major injuries, she is still in need of a formal health check. .

Dalek is a very shy dog, and often timid. She, however, has a propensity to run in lead and pulls consistently.

Creamer

Creamer

This photo was taken at the conclusion of last winter's training. Though she ended the training/ racing season in excellent shape, no major injuries, she is still in need of a formal health check.

Creamer is a very lovable dog and will give any person who comes near an endless supply of kisses. However, her most dominant trait is her drive to run. Like no other dog, she will do whatever she can to be in harness, in lead and run forward.  Creamer is most notable for her one blue eye and one brown eye, thus her name creamer in coffee.

Heart Rate: estimated 90bpm
Weight: estimated at 60lbs

ShaSha

ShaSha

This photo was taken at the begining of the 2009 training season. As of now, no major injuries exist, though this dog is in need of a formal health check for the year.

ShaSha is a very playful dog, though a strong team dog. She can most often be found playing with her neighbor, Wind. When she has had her chance at being in lead, she has little interest and is easily side tracked. However, she will run in swing if needed.

Grass

Grass

This photo was taken at the begining of the 2009 training season. As of now, no major injuries exist, though this dog is in need of a formal health check for the year.

Grass is a very high energy dog and the only male dog in Chris's kennel. He wants to do one thing and one thing only, run. He is an outstanding lead dog and will be one of the kennels top leaders in 1-2 years. He is overall a smooth runner, and extremely intelligent. We expect many amazing adventures with Grass.

Burn

Burn

This photo was taken at the begining of the 2009 training season. As of now, no major injuries exist, though this dog is in need of a formal health check for the year.

Burn is a mix of mostly husky and some hound. She often looks a bit like a fox or wolf from the back. Burn is a very nervous dog, but will do anything for her musher (specifically the one that feeds her everyday.) She is in general a dominant and strong team dog, and can run lead in a pinch. Burn has never had an injury in her 3 years of running.

Sylar

Sylar

This photo was taken at the begining of the 2009 training season. As of now, no major injuries exist, though this dog is in need of a formal health check for the year.

Sylar is an exceptionally intelligent dog, and one of the few black and white dogs in the kennel. She is a strong leader, but she is easily distracted on the trail. In 1-2 years this will change and she will be one of the top leaders. Skylar at age 2 is already leader command trained.

Lex

This photo was taken at the begining of the 2009 training season. As of now, no major injuries exist, though this dog is in need of a formal health check for the year.

Lex is in a general a wonderful team dog. She is best friends with Dalek and the two can be often found playing or fighting. Lex is a strong eater and is a consistant runner in team, though will frighten easily from a rock or other trail debris.

Wind is the largest female in Chris's kennel. She is very gentle and kind, though. She is fantastic in team, very hard working. In fact, she is often forgotten about because she jsut does her work and never has any problems.
